Every week heliumcowboy opened a small exhibition on two wooden walls built especially for this occasion. We invited one artist who will show his artworks on these walls for one week only, and they were be visible through our windows so you can see them from the outside, day and night, as the current regulations didn't allow visitors inside the gallery.”

Alex Diamond is know for his distinctive trademark woodwork: multi-layered, meticulously and highly detailed sculptural woodcuts, blended with diverse painting and pigmenting styles.

This is a rough video I took at the (slightly overheated) studio, printing the final color layer for the woodblock print 'STAY GOLD'.

ABOUT THE WORK: TADMC HEADQUARTERS The name of “The Alex Diamond Mining Company” already suggests a technical, traditional, and also close-to-nature approach to work. It is an important part of the narrative of the “The Alex Diamond Mining Company Headquarters” installation to represent this approach artistically.

The installation is a working printshop made of findings, where employees of the “company” can print live and publicly. The printing table built for this installation and the background of the entire object consist of scrap wood and old furniture. Like many other of my installations, it rests on a mountain of bark mulch.

The installation also embodies a yearning, somehow turning away from the decidedly urban background that characterizes all of my work.

If an “Alex Diamond Mining Company” exists, and if this space in the exhibition hall allows us a peek into its headquarters, one would not expect the rush of a big city outside. One would rather expect the solitude and beauty of nature. Not Hamburg, not Berlin, not New York … But the vast and untouched landscape of Alaska, for example.

TRESPASS is a short-film-project that was realised in the summer of 2011 over the course of several weeks.

Against the background of issues like craftsmanship, tradition, urbanity, commercialization and “branding”, a classical woodblock print was produced. Subsequently, the motif was used as a graffiti and a t-shirt, hand-printed with oil color. Finally, it found its way onto trucker hats and coffee mugs. The whole process explicates an artwork’s journey through various techniques until it reaches commercialization. The film documents this process.

At the same time, it is the filmic staging of how an artistic idea can be exploited in order to become a mass product. Advertising’s use of contemporary art as a product (that ends up in a one-euro-shop after some brief hype) is merely fictional here, however. The alleged mass products were manufactured in minimal numbers or by hand. They were not aimed at any market. The film also tells a possible story of “The Alex Diamond Mining Company” and could even serve as a so-called image film. Don't forget to crank up the volume.
